Alan Patrick Sampica, 73, passed away unexpectedly with his family on January 8, 2022. He was born in Rome, NY on December 21, 1948 the son of Ulysses and Marjorie (Calkins) Sampica.
Alan grew up in Saranac and Chazy Lake, he attended Saranac School and Lyon Mountain school where he graduated at 17 years old and raised a family in Saranac, NY. Alan was a Navy Veteran, serving in the Vietnam War. Alan took after his father and Grandfather and became a Corrections Officer, where he spent almost his entire career at Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, NY.
Alan loved to cook and even more he loved to share his food. Alan always cooked still like he was in the Navy. He overcooked for holidays, loved cook outs and being around family. Alan was always outdoors, whether it was messing with things in the garage, prepping his wood for the winter, mowing the lawn, riding his side by side, pushing snow around with his tractor, or his favorite thing, fishing. Alan loved a good sale, just like his father, and you could always find his browsing all the grocery stores for the best sales.
Alan was smart, kind, funny, strong and always prepared. Alan was not one to show his emotions, but he was in fact the biggest hearted guy you could find. For the last 13 years, the most important things in his life were his grandchildren. He spoiled them and allowed them things that he wouldn’t let his own kids do growing up. They called him Poppi. Poppi showed up all the time with special things for them, including fruits and anything he could find he thought they would like.
He is survived by his Wife Lorraine (Blier) Sampica, son, Andrew Sampica and fiancé Staci Allen, his daughter Alaina (Sampica) Relation and her husband Shane Relation. His grandkids Matthew Miller (13) and Chloe Miller (8). His sister Carol (Sampica) Carpentier and her companion Drew of Michigan, brother Jeff Sampica of Ellenburg, sister Janis (Sampica) Woodby and her husband Michael Woodby of North Carolina, a brother Steven Sampica and his wife Pam of North Carolina, and baby sister Lynne (Sampica) Glanc and her husband Edmund of Chazy, NY. His brothers and sister in laws Donald Blier, Paul Blier, Anita Blier and their families. Many friends and family that he held dear in his heart. His best friends, Bryce Bissonnette of Morrisonville, Byron Wing JR. of Saranac and Robert Burnell of Plattsburgh.
He is predeceased by his son Matthew Sampica, his parents, Ulysses and Marjorie (Calkins) Sampica and Aunts and Uncles and cousins along the way.
