Ann N Kirk (Nolan)

d. May 26, 2017

Ann Agnes Nolan Kirk passed away peacefully Friday evening, May 26, 2017 in Cary, North Carolina surrounded by members of her loving family. Ann was born in NYC December 28, 1927, moving to Chateauguay, New York at twelve after the passing of her father. She moved there to care for a family member, evidencing her nurturing nature early on. Shortly thereafter she joined her mother and sister in Lake Placid where she graduated from High School. Her years in Lake Placid created especially happy memories for Ann. She made many friends during those years, staying in touch with each of them as the years passed. Lake Placid is also where she met Fred Kirk, her husband of 64 years. After their wedding on August 30, 1947 they eventually moved to Plattsburgh where they raised their three children, Lynn Kirk Cole of Charlotte, NC, Michael Kirk of Plattsburgh, NY and Steve Kirk of Albany, NY. Ann was a woman of great independence, strength and forward thinking, always ahead of her time. She loved discussing any topic¦politics, financial investments, the stock market and more with much passion and thirst for knowledge. After being introduced to personal computers she became completely immersed in learning all they could do and it quickly became a part of her daily routine. She eventually created her own Facebook page! Ann had a talent for sewing and was an outstanding seamstress. In the 60's and 70"s she looked to the NY Times for ideas and inspiration of the latest trends. Ann, in being true to her nature, accepted a position as a librarian for Plattsburgh High School in the 1970's, a position in which she flourished. She dedicated herself to organizing the library to the highest standards. Ann enjoyed many friends and a very rich life. She dedicated a great deal of time to the community, first in Plattsburgh, then in Naples, and finally in her last home in Cary. Her dog Henry joined Mom and Dad in Naples. Henry was her constant companion and a very important element of her life in Cary! Ann and Fred loved to travel. After retirement they spent several years visiting places all over the United States in their Winnebago, affectionately called "Winnie". Ann, Fred, Ann's sister Gerri and her husband Dick, from Peru, NY all traveled on a river boat cruise down the Danube. A journey on the Queen Mary II was another highlight of their travels together. After Fred passed she took charge of her future, sold their home and moved to Cary to be closer with her family. She created a new life for herself, immersing herself in her new community, making friends and learning all the while. Her love and commitment to Fred was on constant display. When Fred lost his eyesight she became his eyes. When his health failed, she was the rock of his existence. She missed him terribly until the day she was able to join him. Ann crossed paths with many people over the course of her life and will be missed by all. Her family has grown by many since she and Fred started their new life in Plattsburgh so many years ago. Ann is survived by, her daughter and her husband, John and Lynn Cole; her sons Mike and his wife Tiffany Kirk and Steve and his wife Mavis Kirk; her granddaughters Shana Kirk, Kasey Kirk and her husband Andrew Favreau, Erin Maher and her husband Kevin, Megan Cole, Mackenzie Kirk and her fiancé Richard Bordeau, Kaitlyn Kirk; her grandsons Kyle Kirk and Bryce Kirk; and great grandchildren Lucas and Anna Maher. Calling hours will be 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will immediately follow at 8:00 pm in the funeral home chapel.
