The daughter of Lawrence N. and Clara M. (Cumm) Martin, Bertha M. Martin was born in Champlain Valley Hospital in Plattsburgh on December 13, 1929. Bertha graduated from Willsboro High School in 1948. She continued her education at Champlain Valley Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1951. During her career as a registered nurse, Bertha worked at CVPH Medical Center, Sacred Heart Nursing Home, Clinton County Nursing Home, Evergreen Valley Nursing Home and several summer camps, which include Boy Scouts of America. Bertha was a member of St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville and had at one time sung in the choir. She was also a member of the "To God Be The Glory" healing ministry. She also taught Religious Education classes at St. Alexander's as well as Holy Angels' Church in Altona. Bertha married Owen Wood on February 14, 1953 in Willsboro. Bertha is survived by her son Robert Wood and wife MaryAnn , her daughters Cheryl Farley and husband Reg, Cynthia Virgin and husband Jim , Lori Evangelisto and partner Richard Moore and son-in-law John Evangelisto, Jr.. Her grandchildren, James Giroux and partner Nicole Paquet, Chad Giroux and partner Jen Allen , Jason and Jen Sculli, John Evangelisto, III, Jenny Wood and partner Matthew Moore, Taylor Wood and partner Brandon Moore, James Elliot Virgin, and Michael Dale Virgin. Her great grandchildren Kennedy Grace Wood, Sage Frances Sculli, Lyza Clare Sculli, Lincoln James Paquet, Ellie Ann Moore. She is also survived by a nephew Larry Lewis and his wife Elizabeth and several cousins. Bertha is predeceased by her parents as well as a sister and brother-in-law, Lorraine A. and Wilson A. Lewis. Calling hours will be held on Thursday February 18, 2016 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St, Plattsburgh, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday February 19, 2016 at 11:00 am at St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville.
