Cadyville, NY — Burton F. Duquette of 2358 State Route 3 passed away on August 5th at Meadowbrook Healthcare in Plattsburgh, New York. He was born on February 14, 1929, the eighth child of Julia (Burnell) Duquette and William J. Duquette.

He began his education in a one-room schoolhouse in District 11 at Gougeville, attending grades 1 through 6. He then continued at Cadyville High School for grades 7 through 9, and completed his secondary education at St. John's Academy, graduating in 1946. After graduation, he worked on the family farm for nine years and served as a Postal Clerk at the Cadyville Post Office, where he became well-known in the community. He later enlisted in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in December 1957 after three years of service. Upon returning to Cadyville, he partnered with his brother, Clarence Duquette, in the C.E. & B.F. Duquette Heating and Fuel Oil Co.

He married Marjorie DeWein on July 7, 1962, and together they recently celebrated 63 years of marriage. Their life was filled with love, laughter, and shared adventures, including twenty winters spent in Florida and many summer vacations in Maine. He is survived by Marjorie and their four children and spouses: Cynthia and James Snider (Collierville, TN), Susan and Josh Laware, Karin and Chris DeLutis, and David and Kellie (Carter) Duquette.

He was the proud grandfather of eleven grandchildren: Parker (Sara Grace), Evan, and Rachel Snider; Kayla (Kiel) Stoughton, Chelsey (Jordon) Darrah, Alison D’Aust, and Hunter Laware; Emilee (Andrew) Price and Eric DeLutis; Austin and Abigail Duquette.

He was also blessed with twelve great-grandchildren: Hudson, Henry, and Isla Stoughton; Ryder Passino, Jackson Kasprzak, Kennedy and Colton Darrah; Charlee, Harper and Nash D’Aust; Ezekiel DeLutis; and Ellie Price, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Burt is survived by his sister, Theresa Andre. He was predeceased by his parents, Julia and William Duquette; his brother-in-law James Andre; and four sisters and their spouses; and four brothers and their spouses: Roseanne and Amos Duquette, Margaret and Robert Parker, Mildred and Kenneth Gallagher, Viola and Morris Duquette, Catherine “Kay” Duquette, Norma and Clifford Duquette, Doris and Robert Light, Ruth and Clarence Duquette.

Burt enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, and gardening—often sharing his harvest with friends and family. He was a member of St. James Church in Cadyville, serving on the Church Council as well as Trustee and Advisor. Burt was also a member of the Saranac American Legion Post 1618 and a past member of the Dannemora Rod and Gun Club. He was a Charter Member of the Cadyville Volunteer Fire District, established in 1952, serving as a fireman for 73 years and President for 30 consecutive years.

Family and friends are invited to attend visitation on Monday, August 11th, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad Street, Plattsburgh, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 12th at 11:00 AM at St. James Church in Cadyville, NY.
