Carlton Dana Browne

July 12, 1957 — August 22, 2025

Plattsburgh

Carlton Dana Browne, 68, of Plattsburgh, passed away on Friday, August 22, 2025 at the CVPH Medical Center. He was born on July 12th, 1957 in Honolulu, Hawaii at Hickam AFB; the son of Lloyd S. Browne and Betty O. (Veney) Browne. He entered CVPH a week before, and from that moment on he was surrounded by the attentive loving kindness of family and friends.

Twice, Carlton has fought a long and arduous battle with cancer. However, he was blessed to receive devoted care from his brothers and sisters. Those siblings who traveled from afar to see to his needs were overwhelmed by the brotherly affection and care ministered by his incredibly large community of friends, who were drawn to him overtime because of his unique perspective and idealistic and creative thoughts. Which, in addition, is testimony to the devoted persistence his friends had while attending to him during his final days. To describe their intercession on his and our behalf would cover pages; but, we must note the Wyand family of brothers and sister-in-law who came with all hands- on -deck and tended to Carlton as their own. They represent a beautiful slice of the larger Plattsburgh community, particularly those who grew up with our family in that beautiful idyllic Champlain Park.

Carlton was a graduate of Beekmantown Central High School. While attending, Carlton and his Varsity basketball team of 1975 enjoyed fantastic success so much so that they referred to themselves as the “Cardiac Kids.” Carlton was heartbroken to miss their recent reunion. He, along with his four brothers and several nephews, adopted a love for golf from our father. Refurbishing cars was his passion. Along with being an important member of the Lions Club, he was an avid pool player, while also active in a multitude of activities that one could enjoy in this lake community and Adirondack mountainous wonderland.

Though both ours and your hearts are broken, let them be brightened after witnessing the Christ-like countenances and deference that entered his final space in his last hours and days; smiling, laughing, praying, kissing and weeping.

Carlton is survived by his siblings; Lloyd "Butch" Browne Jr., Mark Browne(Shirley), Marjorie Miller (David), Karen Browne, Neal Browne(Rochelle), Roger Browne (Marti); his nephews, Hayes Browne(Kim), Aaron Browne (Natishia), Cameron Browne (Lauren), Koby Browne, Connor Browne, Akil Browne(Paige), Khalil Chisholm, Izaiah Browne, Elias Glover, Charles Belton(Yesi), Carlitos Belton, James Belton, Brady Belton, Cohen Belton and Xavier Eaton. His nieces, Aisha Glover(Omar), Kayla Chisholm(Canden), Nicole Miller, Allison Miller, River Kornmeyer, Maya Browne, Natalie Belton, London Eaton, Adryana Nichols, Amayah Browne, Scarlett and Sophia Belton, and sisters-in-laws Sylvia Rodriguez and Nancy Browne.

Carlton also leaves behind his precious cat Tiger Woods.

Carlton is predeceased by his parents, grandparents and our sister- in- law Kathy Schaefer.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Carlton on Friday, August 29, 2025 at Meron's at 110 Bailey Ave in Plattsburgh at 5:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers donations in Carlton's name can be made to Camp Ta Kum Ta in South Hero, Vermont.
