Carol Lawliss Moore, of Plattsburgh, NY, 82, passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2017 at home with her family by her side. Carol was born in 1935 in Plattsburgh, NY and was a graduate of Our Lady of Victory High School. In 1957 she graduated from Plattsburgh State University with a degree in elementary education. Carol married David H. Moore in 1956. The couple lived in Chateaugay, NY until 1968 and in Moira, NY until 1973. In 1973 they built a home on Chateaugay Lake. Carol taught art and first grade during her time in Chateaugay, and fourth grade in the Brushton-Moira school district for 35 years. Carol had a very keen sense of social justice especially for children who were marginalized or overlooked. After the death of her husband, David, in 1989, she taught for one more year retiring in 1990 and moving to Sun City West, Arizona for the winters. Carol was an avid hiker, completing the Northville Placid Trail and climbing many of the high peaks of the Adirondacks. She belonged to the Adirondack Mountain Club and accompanied her husband on many camping and canoeing trips on the Fulton Chain in the Adirondacks and the Allagash Waterway in Maine. Carol was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and sister. She was a proud grandmother, an accomplished cook, a talented artist, a world traveler, and was well known among her friends and family for her lively sense of humor. Carol was a communicant of St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville and a charter member of the Catholic Daughters Court of Sts. Kateri and Andre. Carol was predeceased by her husband David, her father, Bernard Lawliss, and her mother Dora (nee Royal, of West Chazy, NY). She is survived by her brothers, James (George Ann) of Argyle NY, Winston (Mary Ann) of Dannemora, NY, David (Jania) of West Chazy, NY, her sisters Jane Murphy of Port Washington, NY, Barbara (Glen Monto) of West Chazy, NY, her daughter Kimberly (Walter Fisher) of Plattsburgh, NY and two granddaughters, Alexandra and Elizabeth. At Carol's request there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 26 at 11:00 at St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville. The family respectfully suggests donations in Carol's memory be made to the Go Fund Me account on Facebook of her loyal caregiver Amy Upton to help cover expenses for medical treatment.
