Carole D Sorrell

July 18, 1944 — April 27, 2026

Spencer

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Carole Diane (Engleman) Sorrell on April 27, 2026, at the age of 81. She passed peacefully in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, surrounded by her loving children.

Carole was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, and a kind and dedicated presence in the lives of all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, John.

She is survived by her children Katie (Sorrell) Deutsch, Matthew Sorrell, Alison Sorrell, and Bridget (Sorrell) Sangiorgi, her five grandchildren, and siblings Ron Engleman and Earlene (Engleman) Reed.

She was born on July 18, 1944 in La Crescenta, Los Angeles County, California. She attended Manzano High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico where she was active in music, dance, and drama. She graduated in 1962.

She met her husband while he was stationed at Sandia Army base in Albuquerque and they were married on December 20, 1962. They resided in Morrisonville, NY where together they raised four children. After John’s passing, Carole moved to Spencer, NY to be near her daughter Katie.

Carole held a variety of jobs throughout her life. She worked as a receptionist, in medical records at a hospital, and as an office assistant. For 10 years she worked in classified advertising at the Press-Republican. Her favorite job was working as the assistant to the Artistic Director of the Adirondack Ballet Company, where she reconnected with her talents and love of the arts.

She was active in volunteer work, especially in her church communities. At St. Alexander’s Church, she was the Harvest Dinner Chairperson for three years, a eucharistic minister, was involved in organizing the children’s liturgy and the development of the Advent Festival, as well as a member of St. Peter’s Parish Council.

Carole found joy in reading, gardening, and traveling. She and her husband traveled to Great Britian, Ireland, Germany, and Austria early in their marriage. Her favorite travel spot by far was the rugged coast of Maine, where many summer vacations were spent and where she celebrated her 80th birthday. When not traveling herself, Carole enjoyed watching travel programs on PBS.

She was especially known for her quick wit and sense of humor, albeit slightly inappropriate at times.
A life richly lived, Carole will be remembered for her bright smile, adoration of the change of seasons, and decorating and celebrating the holidays.

Calling hours will be held at Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh on Monday May 4th from 4pm – 7pm and a Mass Christian Burial will be on Tuesday May 5th at St. Alexander’s Church, Morrisonville at 11am.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
