Clarence Robert "Bob" Darrah of Cadyville, New York, passed away at the Skilled Nursing Facility at CVPH Medical Center on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 to be with his family and friends who have gone before him. He was born in Cadyville, New York, on April 15, 1928, the son of Gilbert Warden Darrah and Marguerite M. Dutton Darrah. He attended several local schools and graduated from Morrisonville High School in 1947. He was Honorably Discharged from the United States Army after serving two tours of duty, in Alaska and again during the Korean Conflict. He married the former Georgette Mae Tyson and March 14, 1953 and resided in Newburgh, New York for a number of years. They had four children. She predeceased him on August 10, 1966. Mr. Darrah was employed as a Corrections Officer by the State of New York, having worked at numerous institutions throughout New York State, including Green Haven, Matteawan State Hospital, Fishkill Correctional Facility, Sing Sing, Coxsackie, and Clinton Correctional, from which he retired as a Lieutenant in 1979. he then married the former Eileen Marie Shanley O'Connell in Hunter, New York, on August 6, 1979. Mr. Darrah was a member of the Cadyville Wesleyan Church and a volunteer fireman with the Cadyville Fire Department for a number of years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, was actively involved in "local politics", and ran a successful painting business, after he retired from Corrections, until he was forced to retire due to a severe injury. He and his wife Eileen, wintered at their home in Bradenton, Florida, for close to twenty-six years, until her death on April 27, 2005. He is predeceased by his parents, Gilbert Warden Darrah and Marguerite Dutton Darrah, his first wife, Georgette Mae Tyson Darrah, and their infant son, Brian George Darrah, his wife, Eileen Marie Shanley O'Connell Darrah, his sister, Hazel Darrah Drollette Decker, his brother, Gilbert "Shine" Darrah, and his grandson, Jared Provost. He is survived by his son, Robert Michael Darrah and his wife, Lynn Roby Darrah, and their children, Heather Mae Darrah, Shana Deanna Darrah and Brandon Michael Darrah, of Cadyville, New York; his son, William Clarence Darrah, of Saranac, New York and his daughter, Natasha Clare Darrah; his daughter, Patricia Clare Darrah, of Plattsburgh, New York, and her children, Jordon Marshall Darrah of Albany, New York and Matthew Tyson Dunsmore of Plattsburgh, New York; his brother, Kenneth Darrah and his wife Lois, and their children of Danbury Conn.; his brother, Lawrence Richard Darrah and his wife, Winifred, and their children, of Cadyville, New York; his sister, Jean Darrah Tamer and her children, of Cadyville, New York; his sister, Florence Darrah Davis Collins, and her children, of Plattsburgh, New York; his step children, Donald O'Connell and his wife, Shari, and their children, of Corpus Christi, Texas; Kim O'Connell Provost of Cadyville, New York; Sean O'Connell of Cadyville, New York; and Tara O'Connell of Corpus Christi, Texas; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be on Sunday, January 3, 2009 from 1-3 and 6-8 at the Brown Funeral Home, 3 Park Row, Cadyville, New York. Pursuant to the request of Mr. Darrah, there will be a small graveside service for family and friends at the Cadyville Protestant Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Cadyville Fire Department or to the Skilled Nursing Facility in care of the Foundation at CVPH.
