Plattsburgh Claude L. Ely, Sr., 87, of Route 9, Plattsburgh, NY and formerly of East Meadow, NY passed away on Monday November 23, 2009 at his daughter's home under the care of Hospice of the North Country. He was born on April 7, 1922 in Pennington Gap, Virginia the son of Alonzo and Irma E. Ely. Claude was a veteran of the United States Army serving his country during World War II in the Pacific Theater. After serving his country he became a master electrician and a member the IBEW Local 25. He was a former member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post 360, in Huntington, NY and Post 33, in Pennington Gap, VA. Claude was an avid fisherman and enjoyed tending to his garden and playing poker. His greatest joy though was spending time with his family. He was predeceased by his wife Carolina (Estep) Ely, two daughters; Brenda Kay and Carolyn Ruth Ely. Claude is survived by three daughters; Claudia Baker and her husband Raymond of Plattsburgh, Donna Dalton and her husband Kenice of East Northport, NY and Susan Ull and her husband Shawn of Saranac, NY and a son Claude L. Ely, Jr. of Plattsburgh, NY, five grandchildren; Kenice, III and Kyle Dalton, Cole and Casey Ely and Kyla Ull. At Claude's request their will be no public calling hours, services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
