Donald "Beak" N. Pelkey, 82, of Howard Rd. Mooers, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on January 31, 2018. He was born the son of William and Ethel (Guyette) Pelkey on September 30, 1935. Donald took pride in growing up on the Pelkey Family Farm until his passing. He enjoyed his hunting, caring for his hunting dogs and walking the woods of the family homestead. He enjoyed visiting family & friends while drinking a cup of coffee. Donald could always be seen wearing a flannel shirt, Black Jeans and work boots. He was a devout catholic that attended Saint Louis de France Church in Sciota every Saturday evening. Donald served in the US Army from 1955-1957. He worked in the Laborers Union 186 and was a devoted worker until his retirement in 1997. In addition, Donald always helped out with chores on the family farm. Donald is survived by a sister in law, Dorothy LaFave Pelkey of Mooers and brother in law, Raymond Bleau of Mooers Forks. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. A special acknowledgment for the personal care provided by his 3 nephews: Dean Nephew, Randall Nephew, and Bobby St Clair. Donald was predeceased by a long term Fiancée' Joan Pelkey of 36 years until her passing in February 1992. While in his golden years Donald spent many years with long term companion Jeanette Matott until her passing in July of 2016. Donald was predeceased by brothers Norman, Maynard (Barbara), Morris "Bum" Pelkey, and long term friend, Paul Marie. Sisters Gertrude (Raymond) Buskey, Thelma (Herbert) Buskey, June (Art) Nephew, and Dot Bleau. A special thanks to Hospice of North Country for providing exemplary short term care and the nurses, aides, and doctors of the 6th floor at UVM medical Center who went above and beyond. Calling hours will be on February 2nd from 2-7pm at Brown Funeral Home, 3123 Miner Farm Rd, Altona. A funeral service in memory of Donald will be held on Saturday February 3, 2018 at 10:30am at Holy Angels in Altona. Burial will be later in the year at St. Louis of France Cemetery in Sciota.
