PLATTSBURGH — Dorothy “Dottie” Carr (née Ryan), 95, of Palmer Street, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at the CVPH Medical Center.
She was born in Cadyville, NY, on October 7, 1930, the daughter of Elmer and Julia (Bassett) Ryan. On June 16, 1951, Dottie married the love of her life, Robert Carr, at Our Lady of Victory Church. Together, they built their home in Plattsburgh where they lovingly raised their four children. Dottie enjoyed a fulfilling career working at Merkel’s Department Store, Levy Brothers and Booth’s Distinctive Gifts before her retirement.
A devout Catholic, attending St. John’s Church was a cornerstone of Dottie's life. She cherished the deep, lasting relationships she built with the congregation, including Father Bill Edwards. She was an active and joyful participant in the St. John’s Rosary Altar Society as well as the Greeting and Bereavement Committees. In her free time, she enjoyed cooking and baking, doing word searches, and wintering in Myrtle Beach with her husband. Above all, she treasured spending time with her beloved family and friends.
Dottie was predeceased by her loving husband, Bob, in 2012; her parents; her son, Robert Carr (2003); her son-in-law, Tony (2022); her grandson, Michael Carr (2012); her brother, Clarence, and sister-in-law, Margaret Ryan; and her sisters, Elizabeth Beach, Grace Brancato, Rita Russell, and Kathryn Reiter.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by: her sister, Ruth Ryan; her children, Jo Ann Brown of Monroe, WA, Patty Ehrsam of Ft. Wayne, IN, Gary Carr and Nancy Coupal of West Chazy, and her daughter-in-law, Alice Carr of Plattsburgh. She was the proud grandmother to her grandchildren: Sarah Malasaga and her husband Emmanuel, Kelly Beasley and her husband Jeremy, Christopher Carr, Kyle Brown and his wife Linley, and Casey Brown and his husband Louis Kahn. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St., Plattsburgh, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Church.
