Dr. Robert William Kline - Dr. “Bob” September 15, 1931 – May 11, 2025
Dr. Robert William Kline, beloved husband, father, grandfather, dentist, Air Force veteran, and pillar of his community, passed away peacefully with his family at his bedside on May 11, 2025 at the age of 93. His passing leaves a deep void in the lives of those who knew and loved him, but his legacy of compassion, service, and strength endures in the family he raised, the patients he served, and the community he uplifted.
Born in Schenectady, New York on September 15, 1931, Robert was the only child of Halsey and Grace Kline. From a young age, he showed a brilliant mind and tireless work ethic—qualities that would come to define his life. As a student at Nott Terrace High School, he was a terrace guard, cross-country runner, trombonist, and ski team member. He also earned the rank of Eagle Scout, marking the beginning of a lifelong commitment to the Boy Scouts of America as a mentor, member of the Order of the Arrow, scoutmaster, district chairman and recipient of the Silver Beaver.
After graduating from Union College in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science degree, Robert was awarded a full academic scholarship to the University of Buffalo School of Dentistry, where he met the love of his life, Joyce Staudt. They married shortly after graduation in 1957—a partnership that became the foundation for a lifetime of family, travel, and mutual devotion.
Robert proudly served as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force, stationed at Westover Air Force Base, before beginning his distinguished 52-year dental career in Plattsburgh, New York. Known for his clinical excellence, integrity, and gentle care, Dr. Kline’s practice became a trusted part of the community. His passion for dentistry inspired a legacy that continues through his sons, Kurt W. Kline, DMD and Brad Kline, DMD and grandchildren Keegan Frenya (Tufts University School of Dental Medicine) and Isabel Kline (Roseman University).
Service to others was a cornerstone of Robert’s life. He was a proud member of the Lions Club for 60 years and the recipient of the 2022–2023 Community Service Award. He held leadership roles as President of the Fourth District of the New York Dental Society, President of the Adirondack Dental Society, Chairman of the Mount Assumption Institute School Board, and Co-Chairman of the United Way fundraising efforts. Through these roles, Robert supported vital causes like the YMCA, mental health initiatives, and local schools. Despite his demanding professional and civic life, Robert was devoted to his family. With Joyce by his side, he balanced work with adventure, sharing his love of travel with his children and grandchildren. From summer road trips across the United States to exploring the cultural wonders of Europe, Egypt, and the Caribbean, Robert reveled in discovery and cherished time spent with loved ones. His warmth, curiosity, and zest for life created memories that his familywill treasure forever.
Even in retirement, Robert continued to lead by example—mentoring, volunteering, and living fully. He often wintered in Florida with Joyce, welcoming visits from family and reflecting on a lifewell-lived. Dr. Kline is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Joyce; his children, Dr. Kurt W. Kline and his wife Diane, Dr. Brad Kline and his wife Diane, and his favorite daughter Kerri-anne Kline-Frenya and her husband Ron, his cherished 5 grandchildren Keegan, Logan, Isabel, Grace and Nikki, plus two great grandchildren Robert Lux and Gabriel Ames and the countless lives he touched through his work and service. He will be remembered for his strength, wisdom, generosity, and the deep love he gave so freely.
A private memorial service will be held at Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad Street, Plattsburgh, N.Y. followed by a private graveside service at Riverside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Plattsburgh Lions Club in his memory. Online condolences and memorial candles may be offered at www.brownfuneralhomeny.com.
