Eileen M Wardner

Eileen Murnane Wardner, 99, passed away on Sunday February 20, 2022 at her home at Lake Forest in Plattsburgh. She was born on June 22, 1922 in Chateaugay, NY to Jerry and Georgiana (Cassidy) Murnane.
Her education took place first in a one-room rural school, after which she graduated from the Saint Joseph Academy in Malone. Both her Bachelor and Masters degrees were earned at Plattsburgh State. She received permanent teaching certification as well as certification as an elementary supervisor from the New York State Education Department in 1968.
Her first teaching experience was in Indian Lake, followed by experiences in Philadelphia, PA and Mooers, NY. She joined the faculty at the Campus School at Plattsburgh State in 1950 and remained at the College as an associate Professor until her retirement in 1977.
During her career at the College Mrs. Wardner taught first and third grader at the Campus School, served as Coordinator of the Participation Program, taught graduate education courses, supervised student teachers, and served as Director of numerous education workshops for elementary, middle school, high school, and college teachers in Career Education.
While on a sabbatical leave in 1965-1966 she expanded her knowledge on an international level, living in Fribourg, Switzerland and visiting France, Italy, Germany, Ireland, and England.
She is remembered at Plattsburgh State as an excellent teacher who made a difference in the lives of countless students, not only in her own classroom but also through her work in teacher education. She will also be remembered fondly by her classmates and fellow alumni as someone who truly cared about her alma mater.
She married Walter Wardner in Brooklyn in 1944. He was still in the service at that time. They had 50 happy years together before his death in 1995. Mrs. Wardner moved to Sun City Hilton Head, South Carolina in 1998 where she remained active in Sales, Sew What Club, Travel Club, line dancing and swimming. She learned to swim after retirement and continue to participate in Masters and Senior games competitions winning numerous events, and demonstrating a wonderful ability to stay fit and active. She served as a greeter at Saint Gregory the Great Catholic Church, volunteered at Hilton Head Regional Medical Center and in one of the Bluffton, South Carolina Schools.
In 2008, Eileen moved "home" to Plattsburgh NY and the Lake Forest Senior Living Community.
Eileen was predeceased by her husband Walter Wardner, son James Wardner DMD, brother Raymond Murnane, sister Mary Ethel LePage, sisters-in-law Anita Gatlin and Joyce Hyde.
She is survived by one brother James (Pat) Murnane of Bluffton SC, one sister-in-law Agnes Murnane of Minoa NY and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the wonderful ladies with Taylors Tendercare Home Health for taking such amazing care our beloved Eileen.
Visitation will be Friday, February 25, 2022 from 3:00pm-6:00pm a Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh.
