Eydie Nephew, 64, of West Chazy, NY went peacefully to be with the angels on Saturday, February 12, 2022. She was born on November 24, 1957 in Plattsburgh, the daughter of Raymond and Daphene (Moore) DeCoste.
Eydie was most importantly a mom who loved her children beyond measure. Eydie’s grandchildren, Cayden and “Carter Bear” were the light of her life. There is nothing she wouldn’t do for them. They would go over to Nana’s often to enjoy a chicken patty and Mountain Dew. Eydie was also a sister, aunt and friend to many whom already miss her dearly. Eydie co-owned and operated D&N Grocery in Mooers for several years. Later, she worked at the Ganienkah Snack Shop in Altona which she enjoyed very much as she always loved being around people. She always had a smile, a joke, and a coffee in her hand. Sometimes you laughed at her and sometimes with her. It was common for family and friends to stop by daily for a quick visit and to share a coffee and laugh with Eydie. She was loved by all and often referenced as “Mama Eydie”. Growing up, her children often thought their friends came over to their house to visit with her and not them. She looked forward to her weekly visits with friends that turned to family. Everyone knew Eydie was a shoulder to cry on, a confidant, an ear for advice and most importantly a friend. She was one of the most laid-back people and rarely would get mad. Eydie would guarantee to make a bad day into a good day with her positive personality and contagious humor. Eydie would always joke and say…. “You know, I don’t like kids!” even though we all know she would have the kids call her “Pretty Eydie”. She had a love for animals especially her own: Foxy, Pumpkin, and Simba always had a special place in her heart. When she wasn’t lending an ear, sharing a coffee or belting a tune, she would spend hours with her son Dean watching their favorite shows, helping decorate cakes with her daughter Kristin, or spending time with the grand-kids. She had bonds with her children like no other. They knew they could lean on mom for anything as nothing was too big or small. Being a Nana was probably her greatest joy in life. She often babysat them and helped mold them into the strong and smart boys they have become. Eydie has spent countless hours watching the birds and Simba was always right there to chase them away.
Eydie leaves behind several important people in her life. Her daughter Kristin Nephew and fiance Jack Garrand, her grandchildren Cayden and Carter Garrand whom she adored, and the father of her children, Dean Nephew. Eydie is survived by her brothers Ellyas (Linda) DeCoste, Lindsay (Sheila) DeCoste, sister Hollie Bulriss, several brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, and many, many nieces and nephews. All that were lucky enough to know Eydie, knew they could count on her at any time. She had a huge heart and always helped anyone she could.
Eydie was predeceased by her parents, her son Dean “DJ” Nephew, her brothers Winston, Darwin and John “Momo” DeCoste. We know that Eydie had longed to see her son DJ again and we take comfort in knowing that he was waiting for her with open arms.
Until We Meet Again…
