Plattsburgh Mr. Francis E. McGarr, 76, of South Peru Street, Plattsburgh, NY passed away on Tuesday December 11, 2012 at his home. He was born in Plattsburgh on November 4, 1936, the son of the late George and Mabel (Laundry) McGarr. Francis served overseas in the U.S. Air Force from 1955 to 1959 and married his wife Sylvia (Reeves) McGarr in 1959 at Our Lady of Victory Church. He was employed for over 46 years at Imperial Paper in Plattsburgh until his retirement in 1995. He later was a School Crossing Guard for the City of Plattsburgh until his final retirement in 2005. He was a member of the Moose Lodge. He was an avid hunter. He also coached City Little League for many years and a plaque hangs at Fox Hill Field recognizing Francis and his brother Mac's many years of dedication to youth baseball. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He will be remembered as a man with a Heart of Gold and always put the needs of others ahead of his own and was a kind and gentle soul. Francis was predeceased by his wife Sylvia in 2009, his parents, his brothers George, Donald, Hugh and Mac McGarr and a daughter Julie Mary McGarr who passed away at birth. He is survived by a daughter Wendy Bezio and her husband David of Plattsburgh, NY, one son Michael Howard McGarr of Plattsburgh, NY, two grandchildren; Jason Bezio and his wife Kirsten of Plattsburgh, NY and Kimberly Kinblom and her husband Trevor of Massena, NY, three great grandchildren; Benjamin, Samuel and Charlotte Bezio. He is also survived by a brother Ross McGarr and his wife Connie of Leesburg, Florida, a sister-in-law Isabelle Reeves of Barre, VT, several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive him. In accordance with Francis' wishes, there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at a later date at St. Peter's Cemetery.
