Gary L. Cambridge

Gary Lawrence Cambridge, 69, of Plattsburgh, NY, passed away peacefully at his home on July 20, 2026.

Gary was born to Richard and Fay (Gooden) Cambridge on November 20, 1956. Gary attended the Potsdam School District, where he obtained a Certificate in Auto Body Collision. During his school years, he played defense on local hockey teams and enjoyed the camaraderie and competition the sport provided.

Upon graduating from high school, Gary worked as a well driller for Atlantic Testing Laboratories. In 2001, he moved to Plattsburgh and began work as a handyman, becoming skilled in carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and virtually anything that needed fixing—from hot water heaters to engines. Gary's reputation was built on honesty, integrity, and craftsmanship. Words cannot begin to describe the countless families and individuals he helped over the past twenty-five years. Whether in the heat of July or the chill of February, Gary never complained. Patience and perfection always guided his work.

Gary later earned his Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) credential and dedicated his life to helping others achieve and maintain recovery. His service to the recovery community was evident in the hundreds of people whose lives he touched over the past twenty-five years. He firmly believed in the power of compassion and often said, “Listening is the greatest tool.” His devotion to the recovery community and Alcoholics Anonymous in Plattsburgh was unwavering and profoundly impactful. Gary will be greatly missed by his Champlain Valley Family Center family, where he was respected not only for his knowledge and dedication, but also for his kindness, humility, and unwavering willingness to help others. Gary also found peace and happiness outdoors, whether hunting, fishing, or simply enjoying nature, and those who knew him best will remember the calm and contentment he found there.
Gary was predeceased by his father, Richard Cambridge; his devoted wife of twenty years, Doreen Cambridge; and his cherished daughter, Kira, who passed away in 2024.

Gary is survived by his mother, Fay Cambridge; his brother, Mark Cambridge and wife Peggy; his stepchildren, Andrew, Danielle, and Amy; and five grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held on August 2, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Marine Village Cottages, 82 Dickson Point Road, Point au Roche, NY.

Gary's legacy lives on through the lives he touched, the people he helped, and the kindness and compassion he shared so freely with everyone fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
