Plattsburgh: Mr. George Robert (Bob) Penfield, 84, of Plattsburgh, New York passed away Friday, May 20, 2016 at the Plattsburgh Rehabilitation & Nursing Center formerly known as Evergreen Valley Nursing Home. He was born in Plattsburgh, NY on March 12, 1932 the son of George Frederick and Mary Grace (Falcon) Penfield. A student of St. John's Academy, he enlisted in the United States Marines where he served in Korea. He returned to Plattsburgh following his service where he met his soul mate Mary Gay (Darling) Penfield who was attending college at Plattsburgh State and they married on June 28th, 1958. He worked with his father for many years in the family owned business Champlain Valley Oil Company. He retired from Plattsburgh Grocery in 1993 where he was a Sales Manager. He is a parishioner of St. John's Church and for many years a Little League Coach for his sons at Fox Hill Park. Bob enjoyed bowling and being outside fishing & duck hunting for many years. He was known for his passion for dancing and helping his children with outdoor work around their homes. He will be most remembered for his love for his family and playing outdoor games with his grandchildren and attending all their sporting events. Bob is predeceased by his parents and his son George Richard Penfield. He is survived by his wife, Mary Gay, his three sons, Robert (Mike) Penfield and his wife Theresa A (Fish) Penfield, Thomas G. Penfield both from Plattsburgh and John F. Penfield from Rockville, MD, his sister and brother-in-law, Arthur and Mary Ann (Penfield) Tremblay of Rouses Point, NY three grandchildren and one great grandchild, Chesney E. A. (Weeden) Penfield and her husband Nathan B. Weeden of West Chazy, NY, Jerred M. Penfield and his wife Sarah J. (Hardy) Penfield and their son Branley W. Penfield of Sahuarita, AZ and Ian T. Penfield of Delmar, NY. Two Nephews, Arthur Robert Tremblay, of Rouses Point, NY and James F. Tremblay and his wife Jan of VT. Calling hours will be Sunday, May 22, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St., Plattsburgh, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, May 23, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at St. John's Church. Interment with military honors will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. John's Church or Third Age Adult Day Care Center.
