Gregg Lester, 65, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2026, in Plattsburgh, New York. He was the devoted husband of Colleen Lester (Henry), with whom he shared 35 happy years of marriage. Born May 4, 1960, in Saranac Lake, New York, Gregg was the son of Elsie (Blair) and Leslie Lester.

He retired from Clinton Correctional Facility in 2015 after 34 years of dedicated service as a correctional officer.

Gregg was an avid reader, often reading multiple books at once, and was known for his wide-ranging knowledge. He was almost always home by 7:00 p.m. so as not to miss a moment of Jeopardy!. In addition to his love of trivia, he was also a devoted fan of RuPaul's Drag Race.

He had a deep appreciation for fantasy and science fiction, including The Lord of the Rings, Battlestar Galactica, Stargate, Star Trek, Doctor Who, and Star Wars, making his May 4 birthday all the more fitting.

Gregg loved to talk and connect with others. He cared deeply for his neighbors and could often be found helping someone in the community. He was someone who could always be counted on to lend a hand and was an "honorary dad" to many.

He was a passionate supporteer of human and civil rights, equality, environmental causes, and the arts,. He was even more outspoken about his deep disdain for the current administration.

Gregg is survived by his wife, Colleen; his children, Amanda (Paul Joseph Miller), Courtney (Ben Quick), and Ashley (Claudiane Labelle Chavigny); his grandchild, Riley Palmer; his beloved pug mix, Tish ("Tisher"); his siblings, Paul, Russell, Norman, Sherman, and Kim (Ritchie); his extended family, including Valerie (Giroux) (Patrick Henry), Lisa (Henry) (Terry Coach), Bradley, Steven (Kara Bouyea), and Matthew; as well as several nieces and nephews.
