Irma J. Chaney

Irma J. Chaney, 95, of Plattsburgh, passed away on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at Plattsburgh Rehabilitation & Nursing Center with her family by her side. She was born on July 26, 1930, in Bristoria, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Floyd and Margaret Wright.

As a young child, Irma attended a one room schoolhouse for her elementary education in Graysville, PA. After her schooling she married and embarked on the life of a military wife. After many years being stationed both overseas and stateside, the Chaney family settled in Plattsburgh. Irma, also known as "Joyce," was fortunate enough to live just a few houses down from her closest military friend Cosette, who became like a grandmother to the family.

Irma dedicated her life to her family. Caring for her seven children was her life’s work and in her later years she enjoyed building relationships and spending time with her 20 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Her memory is carried on by her large family that she loved so dearly.

Irma enjoyed reading, the Pittsburgh Steelers, word searches, the latest fashion, and most importantly conversation. She loved nothing more than sitting and catching up with a loved one.

She is survived by six of her children, Richard (Rose) Chaney, Joyce Donnelly, Dennis (Susan) Chaney, Donald (Pamela) Chaney, Peggy Rogers, and Tammy (Philip Irion) Tyler; her daughter-in-law Wanda Chaney; her sister Shirley Stockdale; her numerous grand-children, great grand-children, a great-great grandchild, and nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her son George Chaney; her siblings Gene Wright, Jane Haught, Ruth Eisiminger, and Glenn Wright; her grand-daughter Sondra Chaney; and her sons-in-law Mark Donnelly and James Rogers.

Private services will be held for her family to honor her memory.
