James J. “Copper” Edwards, Jr., 89, of Plattsburgh passed away Sunday, August 2, 2020 at the CVPH Medical Center with his loving family by his side. He was born in Plattsburgh on March 5, 1931 the son of James J. and Helena (Bates) Edwards. Copper served in the U. S. Army from 1950 to 1953 and received a purple heart and numerous other commendations. He retired from Imperial Mill after forty three years of service. Copper enjoyed playing softball, bowling, hunting and fishing. Copper was a Life member of the American Legion Post 20, VFW Post 125, B. P. O. Elks Plattsburgh Lodge 621 and of Our Lady of Victory Church.
He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Kathryn, a daughter Cheryl Tobrocke and a brother Jimmy.
Copper is survived by his loving companion of twenty five years Linda Mitchell, four sons; Bruce Edwards and his companion Linda Welch, Thomas (Mary) Edwards, Michael “Mickey” (Carla) Edwards, Stewart “Mitch” Mitchell, a son-in-law Kurt Tobrocke, seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date at Our Lady of Victory Church.
Entombment will be at the Plattsburgh Community Mausoleum on the Tom Miller Road.
Friends wishing may make donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh.
