James T. Vann, 92, of Morrisonville, NY, died July 8, 2017 at his home with his loving family by his side under the care of Hospice of the North Country. He was born March 1, 1925 in Riverview, NY, the son of Thomas and Albina (Laware) Vann. James served his country, joining the United States Navy in July 1944. Following his military service, he became an avid boxer, joining the Downtown Boys Boxing Club in Miami FL, holding the South Florida Lightweight Novice Title. He married Elaine Gregory on July 28, 1951 at St. Bernard's Church in Lyon Mountain, NY. James was a lifetime farmer, owning and operating his own farm, and retired after 25 years from Clinton Correctional Facility as Head Farmer. James was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 1619 and the VFW Post 125. Upon retiring, he enjoyed spending his free time continuing to farm, horseback riding with his wife, or spending time with his family. He was predeceased by his parents, and his siblings; Earl Vann, Hazel Rabideau, Mildred LaMar, Isadore Vann, and Winifred Vann. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 66 years, Elaine, his children; Randy Vann and his wife Debbie, Mickey Vann and his wife Elizabeth, Jim Vann and his companion Margaret Meacham, and Jamie Everleth and her husband Tim, his grandchildren; Jeremy Goff and his wife Kara, Jennelle Vann, Marcie Reardon and her husband Jimmy, Joshua Vann, Boone Vann and his wife Rachael, Nicole LaSalle and her husband Josh, Dylan Everleth, and Jacob Vann, his great-grandchildren; Matthew, Camden, Kellen, and Madden Goff, Hartlyn and Addie Reardon, Raquel and Audrey LaSalle, and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Alexander's Cemetery in Morrisonville. The family would like to give special thanks to Fr. Scott Seymour, Sr. Mary Ann Gour and Becky Dominy of Hospice, and his caregivers, Cindy Christon and Susan Bezio. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Hospice of the North Country, St. Alexander's Church, or Mother Cabrini Shrine.
