Jeanie Diane Roberts, 78, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 29, 2025. She was born July 24th, 1947, in Nova Scotia Canada to her beloved parents William (Bill) and Shirley MacDougall. She is predeceased by her loving husband, George Roberts. The couple met in January of1969 at Brody’s Bar and Grill. As family legend has it, they danced the night away to Creedence Clearwater Revival's rendition of "Proud Mary." They married in 1971, and welcomed their two children, Sarah and Christopher.
Jeanie served the North Country as a devoted neighbor and community member for more than 50 years. She was a dedicated community advocate, applying her tenacity and creativity most notably as the Executive Director of the North Country Chapter of the American Red Cross for nearly 30 years. In this role, she also served on many community boards and supported multiple community-wide initiatives across most if not all of the local human services organizations. She believed that if every organization pulled their resources together not only would they benefit, but the people they served would benefit from ongoing collaboration and cooperation. She continued her community commitment after retiring from the American Red Cross in 2012, serving on the boards of the Senior Citizen’s Council and Plattsburgh Housing Authority.
Also known as the “Cookie Lady,” Jeanie was also well-known for her extraordinary baking habit. She loved to bake for holidays, birthdays, special occasions. If there was a meeting to attend, often times she had homemade baked goods in hand for sharing. Her extensive baked goods were also an auction item during her annual American Red Cross fundraiser, Fire, and Ice.
While Jeanie held and cherished the many roles of her lifetime; daughter, sister, wife, mother, advocate, perhaps her most favorite role was grandmother. She is survived by her two children Sarah Roberts and Christopher Roberts, her daughter-in-law Lindsay and grandson Callen; as well as her sister and her husband Jane Anne and Stephen Wilsack, and her brother David MacDougall, his wife Lisa and their family.
As per her wishes, there will be no calling hours or formal services.
