John J. Leonard, 57, of Route 86, Wilmington, NY, passed away on Saturday September 10, 2016 at UVHN:CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Plattsburgh, NY on June 23, 1959 the son of Jerry and Geraldine (McCarthy) Leonard. John graduated from St. John's Academy in Plattsburgh and later graduated from Cobleskill University with an Associate Degree in Culinary Arts. He was a sought-after chef in the Lake Placid region for many years, specializing in ice carvings. John also worked at Price Chopper in Lake Placid for many years as a meat cutter. John was also an expert wood carver, specializing in bears and other Adirondack animals. John was a true lover of the Adirondacks and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his father, brother and friends. He was also an avid coin collector. John is survived by his parents; Geraldine McCarthy Leonard and Joseph "Jerry" Leonard of Plattsburgh, his beloved brother James Edward Leonard and his wife Rebecca of Plattsburgh, two beloved daughters; Brittany Marie Leonard Marquis and Haley McCarthy Leonard of Panama City Beach, FL, two grandsons; Michael and Mason Marquis of Panama City, FL, a niece Amanda Faith Leonard and nephew Nicholas John Leonard of Plattsburgh. John was predeceased by his sister, Pamela Ann Leonard. There will be no calling hours per John's wishes.
