John C Navesky

May 17, 1931 — January 4, 2022

John Navesky, 90, passed peacefully on January 4, 2022 at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital, Plattsburgh, NY. John was born on May 17, 1931 to Antoinette and John Navesky of Locust Valley, NY. He attended school in Glen Cove, NY where he met his wife, Constance. They married on April 25, 1953. He built their home in Bayville, NY where they raised their 3 children. John was a machinist who worked at a number of machine shops, primarily at Perry Industries in Hicksville, NY as their shop foreman. He had a gift for metal fabrication and carpentry and experimented with wind and solar power at his Bayville home in the 1970s. John was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed salt-water fishing on Long Island Sound and in Oyster Bay, duck and deer hunting, skeet shooting and golf. He developed many close friends in the Bayville Sportsman’s Club, Mill River Rod and Gun Club, and the Great South Bay Anglers Club. After retirement in 1995 he and Connie moved to Hendersonville, NC where he was an avid golfer at the Crooked Creek Golf Course and was involved in many civic activities with Connie in the Hendersonville and Asheville area. They moved to Plattsburgh in 2015 to be closer to their daughter Karen and her family. John loved food and cooking. His family fondly remembers the Polish meal he prepared and served every Easter Sunday. He never hesitated in expressing his opinion!
Cherishing his memory are his son Peter (Daphne) of Owasso, OK, daughters Karen Racette (Peter) of Redford, NY and Alyce of Essex Junction, VT. He was so proud of his 5 granddaughters: Anndrea Navesky of Moscow, ID, Laurinda Ogburn (Corey) of Denver CO, Erin Griffin (Andy Testo) of Saranac Lake, NY; Katie Racette of Missoula, MT, and Hannah Racette of Aspen, CO and a special critter-loving great-granddaughter, Lilyana Moore of Moscow ID. John was predeceased by Connie, his wife of 66 years, and his brother Robert Navesky.
John’s family thanks the Palliative Care and R5 staff at CVPH for allowing John to pass with dignity and respect. They also extend deep appreciation for the exceptional care given to John by the staff at Champlain Valley Senior Community of Willsboro, NY.
There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the charity of your choice in John’s memory.
