John Louis Schmitt, 78, of Peasleeville, New York passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at UVM-CVPH in Plattsburgh, NY.

A memorial service to honor John’s life will be held from 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM, Saturday, May 31, 2025 at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

Born on February 24, 1947 in Huntington, New York, John was the son of the late Frank and Elizabeth Schmitt. John honorably served his country in the United States Army and spent 12 months in Vietnam (Sunny South East Asia) as part of the 101st Airborne Division.

John’s character was marked by his extreme generosity and selflessness, impacting the lives of many who had the honor of knowing him.

John is survived by his long time companion Bonnie Pellerin and her family, his daughter Karen and her families of Long Island, brothers and sister, many nieces and nephews and a grandson of North Carolina.

Donations in John’s memory can be made to the CVPH Foundation, Plattsburgh Lion’s Club or the United Way.

A funeral service is scheduled for 10AM on Tuesday June 3, 2025 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Ronkonkona, NY followed by his burial at Pinelawn Cemetery. A Celebration of life is being planned for a later date.
