Plattsburgh Mr. Jonathan Nizel, 63, of Erin Avenue in Plattsburgh, passed away Monday, March 2, 2015 at his home with family by his side and under the care of Hospice of the North Country. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts on July 3, 1951, the son of the late Dr. Abraham and Jeannette (Silverstein) Nizel. Jonathan completed high school at the Belmont Hill School (Belmont, MA.) in 1969, and graduated from Tufts University with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1976. He was employed by the Gillette Company in Massachusetts for over 15 years as a Research and Design Engineer. He moved to Plattsburgh in 1991 and started a computer consulting business. In December of 1992, he suffered a traumatic brain injury as a result of a motor vehicle accident which affected his capabilities but left his sense of humor intact. Although he had to close his business, he worked for Champlain Valley Industries from 1998 to 2012. He was a lifetime member of the Plattsburgh Lions Club and was a member of Temple Beth Israel where Jonathan and his wife Lynn renewed their wedding vows in December of 2014. His curiosity led him to be interested in many things including computers, model airplanes, word play, and dogs. Being a father to his two children was his greatest joy and accomplishment. He is survived by his wife of over 31 years, Lynn Schlesinger, his children; Caroline Sara, Isaac Jeremias, his brothers and sisters-in-law; David and Lesley Nizel of North Miami Beach, FL., Mark and Frances Schlesinger of Hingham, MA., Ann and Asher Sheppard of Santa Rosa, CA., his nieces and nephews; Lori and Jonathan Colan, Harris and Hana Nizel, Eva and Sven Wolf , Julia and Larry Zimmer, Abe Sheppard, Anne and Greg Armstrong, and Peter Schlesinger, two aunts; Silvia Gore , Dorothy Cline and her partner Zel Lurie, and many cousins, grandnephews and grandnieces. He was predeceased by his parents. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 6, 2015 at 11:00 am at Temple Beth Israel, 1 Bowman Street, Plattsburgh, NY 12901 with Rabbi Kari Tuling officiating. Interment will follow in Beth Israel Cemetery. The first Shiva minyan will be observed Friday, March 6, 2015 at 5:00pm at the Nizel residence. Second Shiva minyan will be observed at the Nizel residence Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 7:00 pm. Third Shiva minyan will be observed at Temple Beth Israel on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at 7:00 pm . The remaining four Shiva minyans will be observed at 7:00 pm at the Nizel residence. The family invites all friends to celebrate Jonathan's life at these observances regardless of religious affiliation. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be offered to Temple Beth Israel, the Plattsburgh Lions Club, or Hospice of the North Country.
