Plattsburgh Mr. Joseph F. "Joe" LaChapelle, 90, of Lynde St., Plattsburgh, New York passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at his home. He was born in Plattsburgh, New York on June 7, 1921 the son of Raymond and Eleanor (Duff) LaChapelle. Joe was a graduate of St. John's Academy and attended St. Bonaventure until being drafted into the U. S. Army. He served in the 82nd Airborne as a radio operator dropping paratroopers in Normandy on D-Day. Joe married the former Margaret S. "Peg" Senif on August 4, 1945 in West Winfield, New York. She preceded him in death on October 6, 1994. He was an insurance salesman with John Hancock, where he received numerous awards during his forty year career, retiring in 1986. Joe was an avid golfer and past member of Bluff Point Golf Course where he caddied as a young man. He achieved two holes in one in his lifetime. Joe was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Plattsburgh Lodge #621 and St. John's Church. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Margaret "Peg" LaChapelle and a son-in-law Larry Carpenter. Joe is survived by four daughters; Nicole Lawliss and her husband Russell of Morrisonville, Connie Montinarello and her husband David of Rochester, NY, Sally Terry and Dick Johnson of Plattsburgh, Susie Carpenter of Plattsburgh, one son Jeffrey LaChapelle and his wife Melissa of Collierville, TN, eight grandchildren, Scott and Mark Lawliss, Ray Montinarello, Ben, Emily and Lane LaChapelle, Cory and Chrissy Carpenter, nine great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and his faithful cat Olivia. Calling hours will be Monday, December 26, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St., Plattsburgh, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. John's Church. Interment will be next year at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association or Give the Kids the World Village, 210 South Bass Road, Kissimmee, FL 34746. He will be fondly remembered for his stories of growing up on Plattsburgh "east side", "war stories", "insurance stories" and "SMILERS".
