Josephine Ann Wise Travis, 88, of Plattsburgh passed away Sunday, April 4, 2021 at the Plattsburgh Rehab and Nursing Center. She was born in Spokane, WA. on April 20, 1932, the daughter of John and Vinnie (Sperline) Wise.
She was predeceased by infant son Terry E. Travis, granddaughter Kathryne A. Murray, great granddaughter Sarah J. Orton, her husband of 62 years, Richard D. Travis (Dick), and her siblings...sister Lynn Brown, brothers Dean Wise and Ray Wise.
She is survived by her daughter Diana Rae Travis Murray and husband Roger W. Murray of Plattsburgh NY; her granddaughter Caren E. Laundree and her family of Keeseville NY; great grandson Patrick and wife of Leominster, MA ; her granddaughter Kendra J. Orton and her family of Finksburg MD ; "JoAnn's" brother Larry and wife Gloria of Kennewick WA ; brother-in-law Herschel Brown of Packwood WA; and many other nieces, nephews, granddaughters, and grandsons and families.
JoAnn spent her entire life volunteering in many different organizations as well as privately. During Dick's 21 years of military service she donated her time to Naval charitable organizations. They then jointly served in the Peace Corps for 3 years in Malaysia. Their next adventure was with the United Nations Diplomatic Corps in Korea for 7 years. While Dick was expanding the Korean educational system, JoAnn once again utilized her time in aiding orphanages in various endeavors as well as volunteering with higher education students in learning nuances of the English language. Following their retirement, JoAnn continued her volunteer work teaching sewing skills to children of families in need.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no calling hours. Services will be held privately by the family at her entombment in Whispering Maples Mausoleum in the Town of Plattsburgh. Memorial donations may be offered to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children .
