Karen D. (Ross) Crowley, 61, of Plattsburgh, passed away peacefully, March 5, 2026, at the UVM Health Network-CVPH, with her loving family at her side. She was born the 11th of 13 children, in Ogdensburg, NY on June 19, 1964, the daughter of the late Howard and Florence (Bennett) Ross.
Karen graduated from St. Lawrence Central Schools in 1982 and went on to meet the love of her life, John, in 1984. Together they would raise a family until his passing in 2017. She was employed by the New York State Department of Corrections, making many friends and serving in many roles until her retirement from Clinton Correctional in 2020.
Karen was an extrovert by nature and loved spending time with family and friends. Her compassion, generosity, and sense of humor were felt by all who knew her. She devoted her life to caring for others and her impact on those she touched will continue. Karen enjoyed music and singing. She spent her time accompanying her husband hunting and going for walks in the woods, going to the Casino with her siblings, traveling with her daughter, sitting outside by the fire, and rooting for the Buffalo Bills.
She is survived by her daughters, Megan Crowley of Plattsburgh, NY and Amy Romano and her husband Peter of Nolensville, Tenn.; grandchildren Peter, Dominic, and Carmen Romano; siblings; Marion and Jerry Clary of Winthrop, NY, Barbara and Jon Jessmer of Morrisonville, NY, David and Lisa Ross of Warren, OH, James and Rose Ross of Brushton, NY, Stanley and Diane Ross, of Massena, NY, William and Teresa Ross of Winthrop, NY, Charlotte and Eric Santamont of Oneonta, NY, Sharon and Jerry Marlow of Brewerton, NY and Brenda and William O’Keefe of Watertown, NY. Also surviving Karen are sisters-in-law Faye Ross and Mary Frances Ross and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her loving husband, John M. Crowley; siblings, Gloria Lamendola, Howard Ross, John Ross; brother-in-law Loren Lamendola; and nephew Donald Ross.
At Karen’s request there will be no calling hours. A funeral service will be held on Saturday March 14, 2026 at 10:00 at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Fitzpatrick Cancer Center (CVPH).Arrangements are entrusted to Brown Funeral Home. Online condolences may be offered at www.brownfuneralhomeny.com
