Lawrence J "Larry" Mcdonald

Plattsburgh - Lawrence J. "Larry" McDonald, 72, of Plattsburgh, passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at the Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington, Vermont, surrounded by his loving family. Larry was the son of Walter and Margaret (Montbriand) McDonald, was born on Otober 9, 1943 in Ticonderoga, NY. Larry graduated from Ticonderoga High School, and from SUNY at Plattsburgh with a degree in secondary math. He retired as the Assistant Port Director for U.S. Customs in Champlain in 2007. He enjoyed the outdoors, painting, meditating, yoga, volunteering at various organizations, and spending time with his grandchildren. Those close to him would tell you Larry was caring, funny, intelligent, charismatic, and would always go out of his way to help someone in need. He is survived by his companion of ten years, Amelia "Mickey" Goerlitz, his children; Craig McDonald of Matthews, North Carolina, Megan McDonald-Herner of Matthews, North Carolina, Jennifer McDonald of Richmond, Virginia, in addition to 4 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his three brothers John McDonald, Mort McDonald and Walter "Ronnie" McDonald. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Hospice of the North Country or the CVPH Foundation. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2016 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St.in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm in the Brown Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at a later date in the family plot in Ticonderoga.
