Leonard G ""Len"" Schlacter

West Chazy Leonard G. "Len" Schlacter, 62, of Maple Ridge Drive, West Chazy, NY passed away on Monday August 15, 2011 at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh with his family by his side. He was born in Syracuse, NY on August 11, 1949, the son of Leonard D. and Maria (Girnik) Schlacter. Len graduated from Henninger High School in Syracuse in 1967 and Manlius Military School in Manlius, NY in 1968. He then went on to SUNY Cortland where he was an All American Heavyweight Wrestler. Len was married to Susan Breyette by the Rev. J. Lee Snow at St. Mary's of the Lake Church on Cumberland Head on August 19, 1972. He retired from the Plattsburgh City School District in 2005 where he was a Physical Education Teacher and Football Coach. Len was predeceased by his father, his brother Steven, a daughter Emily and his father-in-law Malcolm Breyette. He is survived by his wife, Susan Schlacter, his mother, Maria Schlacter of Syracuse, a son Daniel of Beekmantown, a daughter Elizabeth Wentworth and her husband Richard of Portsmouth, NH, a granddaughter Emily Wentworth, two brothers; Terry Schlacter of Niskayuna, and Christopher Schlacter and his wife Christine of Syracuse, a sister Lorraine Russo and her husband Andrew of Fayetteville, a sister-in-law Rosa Rankin-Schlacter of San Francisco, CA, his mother-in-law Winifred Breyette of Plattsburgh, his brothers-in-law; Stephen Breyette of Plattsburgh, Scott Breyette and his wife Jerie Reid of West Chazy and Jeffrey Breyette of Plattsburgh, his sisters-in-law; Mary Breyette of Plattsburgh, Jane Breyette and her husband Russell Fraser of South Burlington, VT and Jennifer Szalkowski and her husband Edward of Morrisonville. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive him. Calling hours will be held on Thursday August 18, 2011 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday August 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's of the Lake Church, burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Donations in Len's memory may be made to a scholarship in his daughter Emily's memory through Beekmantown Central School or the Fitzpatrick Cancer Center at CVPH Medical Center.
