Lloyd L Bailey, 89, of Plattsburgh, NY, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family and friends on October 6, 2026. Born on February 17, 1937, in Dannemora, NY, he was the youngest of three sons of Albert and Albina (Pellerin) Bailey.
Lloyd grew up in Dannemora, attended high school at Mount Assumption Institute in Plattsburgh and graduated from St. Michaels College in Colchester, Vt. While attending college, he met his wife, Claire, whom he married on September 13, 1958. They enjoyed 65 years of marriage until she passed in January 2024.
Lloyd is survived by his son Stephen and his wife Michelle of Vero Beach, Fl and daughter Elaine and her husband John Michalski of Chesterfield Twp., MI. His grandchildren include Sonya (Chet Toma), Sarah (Jesse Brooks), Andrew, Joseph, Monique and Joshua, several great grandchildren, his brother Roderick Bailey of Vero Beach, FL and several nieces and nephews. His parents and brother Albert, Jr. predeceased him.
Lloyd began working at his family auto shop in Dannemora when he was a young boy and he ran Bailey Ford in Malone until his retirement. He was an entrepreneur, frequently adding other franchises, many of them unrelated to automobiles such as C & L Canoes. He was a mountain man who enjoyed hunting and fishing and was proud of his enviable collection of guns. And he also had a refined side, cultivated by Claire, enjoying theatre and museums and travelling around the world. He was devoted to his dogs and cats and shared his love of animals with his wife, children and grandchildren. He was a communicant of St. Bernard’s Church in Lyon Mountain and Holy Cross Church in Vero Beach, Florida where he and Claire spent many winters.
The family wishes to express immense gratitude to Shelly Bedard who made it possible for Lloyd to spend his final days in his home at Lake Forest in Plattsburgh. Shelly, who also cared for Claire, was way more than a caregiver. She truly loved Lloyd, and along with her husband and the other caregivers she carefully selected, she ensured that he spent his final days doing his favorite things – taking long rides in the Adirondacks and visiting with family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial presided by Fr. Tojo Chacko and assisted by Deacon Ken Lushia will take place at St. Bernards Church, Lyon Mountain on Tuesday Oct. 13, 2026. The family will receive guests at the church at 10:00 am, mass at 11 am followed by a funeral procession and graveside ceremony. Mourners are invited to join the family at a luncheon held at the Hollywood Inn, 4939 NY-374, Merrill, NY 12955.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Lloyd’s memory to St. Bernard's & St. Edmund's Parish, 5526 State Route 11, Ellenburg Center, NY 12934, Hospice of the North Country, 358 Tom Miller Road, Plattsburgh, NY 12901 or The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
