Lloyd Stafford “Butch” Browne, Jr.
02/03/1952 – 10/28/2025
The Browne family is heartbroken to announce the passing of Lloyd Stafford Browne, Jr., lovingly known as “Butch”, who left us peacefully on the morning of October 28th after a courageous battle with throat cancer.
Born in Washington D.C., Butch was the firstborn child of Lloyd and Betty Browne—and from the very beginning, he was a model big brother. To his six siblings, he was a guiding light, a teacher, a mentor, and a source of endless love and wisdom. Butch showed his brothers and sisters how to play, how to work, how to love, and how to live. His compassion and quiet strength shaped the Browne family’s bond, a legacy that will endure for generations. Butch was an uplifting and anchoring presence in all of our lives.
A proud graduate of Beekmantown Central High School (Class of 1970), Butch went on to attend Plattsburgh State University College, where he earned a degree in psychology. Butch was a lifelong athlete, which included basketball, football, swimming, ping pong, tennis, golf and pickleball.
Later, Butch made his home in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he spent over 30 years creating a life full of friendship, laughter, and hospitality. Family and friends who visited were always greeted with his signature warmth; he made sure everyone felt welcome, knew the best places to visit, and experienced the true joy of the city he loved. His kindness, humor, and sincerity made an impression on everyone he met.
Butch’s work ethic and generosity of spirit were widely recognized—he was honored twice as the City of Las Vegas Taxi Driver of the decade, a distinction that reflected his professionalism, honesty, and genuine care for others. Though he never sought attention or praise, his family couldn’t help but share their pride in the man he was.
In his later years, Butch retired in Tucson, Arizona, where he quickly found joy in the sunshine, sports, and community. Whether playing golf, working out, or enjoying pickleball with family and friends, he embraced life fully. His time spent with his niece, sister, brother and extended family brought him (and them) great happiness. His Tucson family included his sister Marjorie and her husband David and his doting niece Nicole, who loved spending time with her Uncle, on the golf course or at the movies. He enjoyed spending time with his brother Neal and his sister in law Rochelle, whom he grew to love even more as she cared for him in her and Neal's home.
Butch’s calm demeanor and thoughtful presence grounded those around him. He taught his family to see the world with more patience, more kindness, and more light.
In his final days, the Browne family was surrounded by an outpouring of love and support from dear friends and extended family. Their presence brought comfort and peace during a time of deep sadness. The family also wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Debbie Towle and Cat Stillman for their support and comfort, especially in the final days of care. Much love to Hospice In The Desert, whose compassion, professionalism, and kindness were a blessing beyond measure. Their care made Lloyd’s final days more peaceful and helped his brother and sister navigate those sacred final moments with grace and comfort.
The entire Browne family are grateful for the love and care that Neal, Rochelle, Marjorie and Nicole selflessly gave to Butch during his illness.
