With deep sorrow, surrounded by friends and family, Louis A Hunter passed away at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital on March 21, 2026.
Born March 16, 1942 to Willis J. Hunter and Josephine North in Copiague, New York
Louis A Hunter attended and graduated from Lindenhurst Elementary School and East Greenbush Central Schools, Colombia High School.
He is survived by siblings Patricia and George Hunter; daughters Victoria, Leann, Sherri-Louise, and Virginia-Louise Hunter; son Luke Hunter; and loving wife Tessie Hunter. He was predeceased by his brother Billy Hunter.
Louis A. Hunter lived a full life. Departing from us at 84 years old. Leaving behind the legacy that is his family, his other greatest accomplishment was his service to this country in the United States Navy.
During his 9 years of service, he courageously served in the Vietnam war September of 1967 - September of 1968. As a Quartermaster 1.C. Stationed aboard the Carrier Essex, he was awarded the Bronze Star with Combat “V” as an honor for his service with the River Section 541 in Rung Sat Special zone. He had participated in more than 250 combat patrols. Afterwards,he became a merchant marine on the St. Lawrence River where he retired.
He continued his service through the Veterans Association in Plattsburgh. Participating in many events to commemorate other vets and visiting schools like Saranac High School to raise awareness on PTSD in Veterans.
Calling hours will take place Tuesday March 31st 3pm-6pm at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place the following day, Wednesday, April 1st at 12:00pm at Assumption of Mary Church in Redford, NY.
