Maria Niforos, 88, of Ballston Spa and formerly of Plattsburgh passed away suddenly on April 6, 2010. She was born in Plattsburgh, New York on January 11, 1922 the daughter of Ernest and Aspasia Larios. She is survived by three sons, Ernest and wife Marguerite of Gloversville, George and wife Kimberly of Ballston Spa and Peter and wife Suzanne of Bradenton, FL and five grandchildren, Kristen Niforos of Norwich, CT, Gregory Niforos of Boston, MA, Jessica Niforos of Boston, MA, Zachary Niforos of Lafayette, LA and Kathryn Niforos of Boston, MA. She was predeceased by her husband Gus, her parents and three brothers, George, Peter and Petros. Maria married Gus Niforos, co-founder of Gus' Red Hots on October 21, 1945. She was a lifelong resident of Plattsburgh until 2007 when she moved to the Home of The Good Shepherd in Ballston Spa to be closer to her children. Maria was an Avon representative in the West Plattsburgh area for 35 years retiring in 1997. Maria was also an active member of the Champlain Valley Chorus of the Sweet Adelines and singing was her passion. Calling hours will at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad Street, Plattsburgh, New York on Friday, April 9, 2010 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 10, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Plattsburgh. Interment will be at a later date at Riverside Cemetery, Plattsburgh. Donations in Maria's memory may be made to the Malta Ambulance Corps, 2449 Route 9, Malta, NY 12020 or to the American Cancer Society.
