Mary Della (Duprey) Downs, 102, of Plattsburgh peacefully passed away January 11, 2018, at the Clinton County Nursing Home surrounded by family members. She was born in Mooers, New York on March 14, 1915, the daughter of Walter and Elizabeth (Gebo) Duprey. Mary was united in marriage to Seward Downs on December 20, 1934 in Mooers, New York. Mary was a dedicated mother and homemaker. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. There was always room at the table for visitors and Mary frequently invited them to stay for dinner. She was a faithful tea drinker and always offered a cup to anyone who stopped by. Mary enjoyed berry picking and working in her garden. Her pickles, jams, and jelly preserves were highly sought after and she frequently gave them to visiting family and friends. She loved to sew and regularly made clothes for her children and herself. Her aprons, potholders, senior bibs, afghans, and homemade quilts were always in demand and she was well known for her lye soap, which was great for removing stains. Mary was one of 14 children. She had seven sisters, Mina McHie, Della Bell, Ruby Gonyo, Carrie Goss, Delia Trombley, Catherine LaForest, Rita Racette, and six brothers, Richard, Abram, Walter Jr., Leo, Fred, and Edward Duprey. Besides her parents, Mary is predeceased by her husband, Seward (May 1981), her six sisters, six brothers, and two son-in-laws, Richard Gillberg and Donald Feazelle, Sr. Mary is survived by four daughters, Alice Gillberg of Rochester; Violet Feazelle of Plattsburgh; Doris (Orville) Fredette of Plattsburgh; Hazel (James) Snavely of Sedalia, Missouri; and son, Ralph Downs of West Chazy. Mary also leaves behind 13 grandchildren including Elizabeth (Steven) Allocco of Rochester; James (Robin DeLong) Gillberg of Elmira; Cathy (Kevin) Emswiler of Pennsylvania; Donald (Kathy) Feazelle II of Virginia; Alan (Christine) Feazelle of Plattsburgh; Terry Feazelle of Plattsburgh; Randy Fredette of Plattsburgh; Kimberly (Troy) Granmoe of Morrisonville; Tracy (Pierre) Morin of North Carolina; Sonya (Alan) Foster of Oklahoma; Sharon (James) Kiely of Kansas; Susan Snavely of Missouri; Sandra (Erik) Dunning of Missouri. Mary had 25 great grandchildren including Vincent and Adam Allocco, Donald III, Grace, Clarence, Haley, Mallory, Laney, Mary, Caleb, Ethan, and Sarah Feazelle, Alyssa, Collin, and Taylor Fredette, Kristen Banting, Brittany Strong, Justin Granmoe, Sophia Morin, Ryan Hieronymus, Riley and Reyd Foster, Clinton Kiely, Krista Onderstal, Brittany Rieves, in addition to 13 great great grandchildren and her sister Catherine LaForest of Plattsburgh, Calling hours will held on Saturday, January 20 from 2 to 4 pm at The Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral ceremony will follow at 4:00 pm in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be at a later date in Riverside Cemetery in Mooers, NY.
