Michael J. Hildebran, 65, of True Brook Road, Saranac, NY died on Tuesday August 13, 2013 under the care of his wife of 44 years, following an almost 2 year battle with cancer. He previously was treated by the Fitzpatrick Cancer Center at CVPH and by Hospice of the North Country. Michael was born in Troy, Ohio on February 11, 1948 the sons of Richard and Betty (Brandendburg) Hildebran. He went on to the University of Kentucky where he met his wife Susan their freshman year, they were married in 1968 and had two sons: Bret and Rod. He developed a fanaticism for University of Kentucky Wildcat Basketball. Michael began in hospital public relations in 1971 at Terre Haute Regional Hospital in Indiana. He worked at Winona Memorial Hospital in Indianapolis and Lima Memorial Hospital in OH, before coming to CVPH in 1991. Michael was active in numerous community activities through CVPH and Clinton County. Most prominent is the Plattsburgh Sunrise Rotary Club, where he served in most capacities as board officer and committees. He was club president in 2006-07 and was nominated and chosen as a national Paul Harris Fellow. Michael also served on the body of governors for: Clinton County Community Services, American Red Cross North Country Chapter, North Country Community Services, Behavioral Health Services North and the Clinton County Mental Health Services. His interests encompassed most sports with special passion attached to U.K., The Reds and fantasy leagues in baseball, football and basketball. The sports exploits of his grandson, Jason, ranked right up there with the professionals. Michael had a passion for cutting firewood, playing golf and harness racing. Michael was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife Susan Hildebran of Saranac, two sons: Bret Hildebran and his wife Julie of OH and Rod Hildebran of CA, a grandson Jason Hildebran, a brother Nichlas Hildebran of OH and his beloved dog Fluffy of Saranac. Michael's family would encourage everyone to see a doctor regularly and to take skin cancer seriously. Calling hours will be held on Thursday August 15, 2013 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A celebration of Michael's life will be held on Friday August 16, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Circle of Healing and Hope on the lawn of CVPH Medical Center. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Fitzpatrick Cancer Center or Hospice of the North Country.
