Palmina "Pal" Boyd passed away on July 4, 2026 at Meadowbrook Nursing Home. She was born on May 25, 1924 in Altona, NY the only daughter of George and Ellen Young.
After graduation from Altona High School in 1941, she was going to be a hairdresser. Her father built her a shop but she decided to go to Baltimore, MD to be with her brother Andrew, who had a job down at a welding school there. She started working at Copper’s where they made copper rings for cars, etc. She lived thru the depression of the 30’s, worked in a defense factory as a plant inspector during WWII and 9-11. She roomed with three girls and through one of them, she met her husband to be Robert Boyd. They married on February 7, 1948. She then worked at Social Security in Baltimore, MD where she received some distinguishing awards she proud of. She and Robert had a boy Allan Boyd July 8, 1959 and quit work to raise their son. After her son started school Pal went back to work at Social Security. She also helped volunteer in Allan's school and raising money.
Twenty years later their son passed away in August of 1979. Her husband retired from News American and they moved into the old homestead in Altona in 1982. Moved to Twin Oaks Sr. Housing in Altona prior to a resident at Meadowbrook. She lived thru the depression of the 30’s, worked in a defense factory as a plant inspector during WWII and 9-11.
To say Pal is a great seamstress is an understatement. She made and altered clothes for herself and many others on her 1918 Singer Peddle sewing machine which she only paid $15 for. Many people have been blessed to own one of her knitted sweaters as well as her beautiful quilts. Lap blankets and Christmas stocking. Anyway sweaters, Barbie clothes, Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls, cross stitch poems of LOVE written by her mother and prayers, a wedding dress that was worn 4 generations. Hundreds of cancer hats. Entered her talents at the Clinton County Fair where she received many ribbons. Enjoyed horse races with her husband. She will be missed for her talent and quick common-sense wit! Give me some sugars…Who tis greeting…they have their ass on their shoulder…Get a bang out of it. Her fill cookies and peanut brittle. She was very dedicated Catholic and helped prepare many harvest dinners and donate her quilts for Holy Angels Church. We will cherish and remember all of her many stories.
She loved going to McDonalds with her “sister” in law Joyce. She has amazing strength having a knee replacement at 86 and a tooth extracted at 100. Drove until 92 – 75yrs without an accident or ticket.
She is survived by a sister-in-law Joyce Young and her family Kathy and Gary Decelle, Carla and Brian Dragon, Lyle and Diane Young, Nancy and Thomas Hawksby and many great nieces, nephew and close friends.
She is predeceased by her husband Robert, son Allan. Brothers Andrew, Bernard, Donald and Alfred Young. Sister-in-laws Helen, Mary, Irene and Shirley as well as all of her husband’s side.
We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the staff at Meadowbrook Healthcare (Chestnut Grove) for being such great caregivers.
