Plattsburgh Mr. Raymond F. "Ray" Lavoie, 80, of Maine Road in Plattsburgh, passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at his home with his family by his side. He was born in Plattsburgh on October 6, 1935, the son of the late Nazaire and Claudia (Lafontaine) Lavoie, and lived most of his life in Champlain, NY. Ray graduated from Mount Assumption Institute, St. Bonaventure University and later received his Master's Degree and Certificate of Advanced Studies from SUNY Plattsburgh. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. and was later employed at Northeastern Clinton Central School District, where he taught 6th grade and later became the elementary and junior high school Principal. He was a faithful parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Champlain, NY and later a member of St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh. He was involved with several community organizations dedicating his time to the Northeastern Zone of Retired Teachers, the Knights of Columbus Council 3525 in Champlain, and Elks Lodge #621. A lifelong Boston Red Sox fan, he enjoyed Cardinal Hockey games, fishing, golfing and spending time with his grandchildren in his free time. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Theresa (Menard) Lavoie whom he married at St. Ann's Church in Mooers Forks, his sons and daughters in law; Thomas and Cam Lavoie of Yorba Linda, CA, David and Stacy Lavoie of Latham, NY, his daughters and sons in law; Michele Lavoie of Plattsburgh, Nicole and Greg Lombard of Peru, Suzanne and Andrew Carty of Milton, MA, his grandchildren; Kyle Gorman, Nicholas Lavoie, Victoria Lavoie, Emily Lombard, Tanner Lombard, Liam Carty, Max Lavoie, Alyce Lavoie, Owen Lavoie, his step-grandson, Geoffrey Lombard and his wife Shatoya and their children Xavier and Naomi of Aberdeen, MD, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Stanley Lavoie. Calling hours will be private. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at 11:00 am at St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be offered to the St. Mary's Church Building Fund or to Hospice of the North Country.
