Raymond G. Turbide, 83, of Plattsburgh, passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 29th, 2018 at the UVM Health Network-CVPH, with family by his side. He was born on les Iles-de-la-Madeleine, P.Q., Canada on January 13, 1935, the son of the late Alpide and Aldee (Renaud) Turbide. Raymond married Doris Dashnaw on August 24, 1963. Together they built their family home, raised two children, and were active and faithful members of their church and local communities. Ray was a devoted parishioner of St. Alexander's Church and donated his time as a Eucharistic Minister, bringing Communion to those who were sick. He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus #6067. Ray grew up in a small home without electricity or plumbing, was part of a large, loving family, and embodied the close-knit and simple nature of French Canadian culture. He knew, loved and valued work his entire life, first in the fishing and farming community in which he was born, and later, through experience in construction, carpentry, land surveying, plumbing, and electrical. He ultimately specialized in heating, ventilation and air conditioning, earned the status of Universal Technician, and served for many years as a federal employee with the General Services Administration. Throughout his adult life, he enjoyed returning to les Iles-de-la-Madeleine, where he built a second home with his beloved wife, spending many summers there by the ocean, walking on the beach, fishing, and openly welcoming friends and family. Ray will be missed for his humility, loving nature, and prolific generosity, which he often demonstrated by volunteering his talents and knowledge of various trades to help others in the community. He enjoyed music, laughter, and spending time with his friends and family, including his extended Dashnaw and Hebert families. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Doris Turbide; their children and their spouses, Gerard Turbide and his wife Lara of Geneva, NY, and Brian Turbide and his wife Michelle of Grand Isle, VT; granddaughters Sophia and Marielle; his siblings Hilda and Lucette; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Alpide and Aldee Turbide, and his siblings Edmond, Marie-Jeanne, Jeffrey, Leotine, Yvette, Leopold, Frederick, Joseph, and Emilia. Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 31, 2018 from 4:00-7:00 pm at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. A Knights of Columbus service will be at 6:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at 12:00pm. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad Street, Plattsburgh, NY 12901. Online condolences offered at www.brownfuneralhomeinc.com.
