Richard T. Heckard, of Plattsburgh, died Monday, June 21st at CVPH.
Born in Marion, Indiana, Richard came to PAFB as an airman 1956-1959. He was a NYS Police member assigned to the Plattsburgh area for 30 plus years, retiring in 1997.
Richard was assigned to the BCI in 1974 and served as Senior Investigator. He was the designated officer assigned to the Auto Theft Division and an active member of IAATI.
As a contributing member of the community, he was appointed to PAFB Liason committee by Clyde Lewis in the late 80’s until closure of the base in 1995. He was a lifelong member of the Elks Club, 621, a volunteer at the Christmas Bureau, and a lifetime member of The Barracks Golf Course.
He was predeceased by his parents, Dorothy Kistler and William Heckard, a brother, William Heckard, his beloved grandmother, Ethel Shinault, in-laws William and Laura Siebel, Philip Siebel, Joan and Gene Parker, and Janet and Jim LaBombard.
Richard is survived by his wife Alice; his son Chris, wife Sallie, and their son Justin; his daughter Traci, husband Peter, and their children Brendan and Kyra. And many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are Thursday, June 25 from 4:00–6:00 PM at Brown Funeral Home. Mass is Friday, June 26 at 10:00 AM at St. Peter’s Church, with inurnment at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
