Richard P. Pecore, 87, of Altona, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2026, at the UVM Health Network–CVPH. Born on January 21, 1939, he was the son of Earnest and Pauline (LeClair) Pecore.
Richard was born and raised in Plattsburgh, where he attended Mount Assumption Institute. After graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served aboard the USS Canberra.
Following his service, he accepted a position with Carrier, which led him to settle in Los Angeles, California. There he built both a family and a business—each of which he lovingly cultivated, and which continue to thrive today.
An avid outdoorsman, Richard found his greatest joy in the woods—hunting, fishing, foraging, and exploring. Indoors, he was happiest in the company of friends and family. His jovial spirit, kind heart, and good company will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his sister, Theresa Smith of Escondido, CA; his brother David (Jane) of Oswego; his children Paul (Amy) of Altona and Annmarie of Plattsburgh; his grandchildren
Alexander, Chela, and Braelyn Pecore; his great-granddaughter Keyonna; and several nieces and nephews, including his “Charlie’s Angels”—Leslie Ann, Karen, Paula, and Terry—who affectionately nicknamed him “Silver Fox.”
He is also survived by his longtime girlfriend, Tammy King of Altona, and her children Nathan and Chris (Ashley) Boutin, along with grandchildren Hailley, Rayna, and his little buddy Grayson.
Richard’s dear cousins and lifelong friends are too numerous to list, but the family extends heartfelt thanks to all who brought joy to his life.
He was predeceased by his parents; his siblings Doris Marvel, Joseph, Charles “Bucky,” all of Plattsburgh, and Thomas of Redford; and his former spouse, Mary Ellen (Singleton), with whom he shared his children.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, May 10, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home. Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated Monday, May 11, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh, with interment with full military honors to follow in the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to North Country Honor Flight.
