Plattsburgh Roosevelt Williams of Concord Ave. Plattsburgh. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama on July 30, 1935, to Albert and Julia Williams (deceased) one sister Carolyn George (deceased), two brothers Albert Williams Jr (deceased) and Samuel Williams of Denver Colorado. Roosevelt attended schools in Birmingham. He entered the Unites States Air Force in January 1955, training in Aircraft maintenance. Overseas assignments included; the Republic of Korea, tour in Guam (twice) and state side assignments to Texas, California, Illinois, Plattsburgh, Maine and Delaware and then back to Plattsburgh, NY. While stationed in Plattsburgh he met and married Shirley A. Ashine on June 5, 1963, a marriage that lasted 44 years before she went home to God on September 20, 2007. Roosevelt is survived by three daughters and their spouses. Cheryl Frazier, Tanalynn and George Shepler, Dr. Natania and Jeffrey Piper and eight grandchildren; Abby Frazier, twins: Adam and Nickolas Frazier, twins: Garrett and Ariana Shepler, Nicole Shepler and twins: Reed and Julia Piper. Roosevelt was an avid sports fan. He loved the New York Football Giants, New York Baseball Yankees, New York Knicks basketball and the New York Rangers hockey. He also played many sports growing up. His hobbies included coin collecting and he really enjoyed model railroading. He has an enormous model railroad layout in the basement where he spent many hours running trains and working on the layout. He belonged to a Railroad Club locally. Club members would meet at each other's homes to operate the model railroad as a real railroad something he always enjoyed. Mr. Williams retiredfrom the Air Force in February 1981, before being employed by SUNY Plattsburgh and retiring once again in June 2009. He was a life member of the American Legion and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed visiting these organizations to socialize and meet new people. Roosevelt loved animals and adored his toy poodle "Emily," which was the love of Shirley's life also. Roosevelt was a free mason F+AM, belonging to Pioneer Lodge 102 in Plattsburgh. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2016 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St. in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 20, 2016 at 10:00 am at St. Peter's Church. Interment with military honors will follow in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, send donations to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society or the ASPCA.
