Royce L. Butchino, 87, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at the Elizabethtown Community HOspital in Elizabethtown, N.Y. He was born in Malone, on December 20, 1938. the son of the late Ozias and Pearl (Cook) Butchino.
Royce married his wife, Marie (Fabrizio) Butchino, on November 4, 1961 and remained married until Marie's untimely passing in 2020. Together, they raised three children, Darren, Corinne, and Dwayne.
Royce served his country in the United States Army, and was welcomed member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. He worked a variety of jobs in his life including a baker at Boyea's Bakery, laborer, and Heavy Equipment Operator for the City of Plattsburgh, and a school bus driver for the Clinton County Public Transit. But perhaps the job he loved most was being a grandparent and spending time with his grandchildren. Royce loved to dance and listen to country and 50's rock and roll, and often enjoyed a good action movie, or military shows. In his spare time, he often tinkered in his basement woodworking and refinishing furniture, or building something for a loved one. Oftentimes he could be seen on the shores of Lake Champlain fishing by himself or with family and friends.
Royce is survived by his son, Darren and wife Shari Butchino of Peru; daughter Corinne and husband Michael Giambruno of Dannemora; son Dwayne and wife Charity Butchino of Plattsburgh; his grandchildren, Nicole and Ian Curtis of Peru; Dominica and Brandon Curtin of North Syracuse, N.Y.; Anita Giambruno of Port Kent; Marci Giambruno of Port Kent; Anthony Giambruno of Dannemora; Ana Butchino of Plattsburgh; Talya Butchino of Plattsburgh; and six great-grandchildren, Damian, Mercedes, Makenzie, Dorian, and Ivette Curtis, and Brantley Giambruno; and Royce's brother Roderick of Tennessee.
