Mrs. Sharon Paulin Abel passed away December 14, 2021 at UVM Health Network- CVPH in Plattsburgh, with her family by her side.
She was born July 1, 1948, to Mrs. Flossie Hill Paulin in Oneonta’s Fox Hospital. She lived in Utica, New York from age 1 to age 13, attending Kernan and Lincoln School. She met the love of her life and father of their two children, Louis William Coger, and they married December 9, 1967.
George Christopher Coger and Terri Lee Coger Douglas joined them in the next few years.
Sadly, Louis left us all too soon on October 13, 1992, after a short but valiant fight with cancer. He was 52.
In 1995, she was blessed to have two step-daughters come into her life. Mrs. Danielle Darrah and Samantha Breyette.
She was lucky to have true love find her again, and she married Gary Abel on June 5, 1999.
She worked in Oneonta, NY at the Oneonta Dress Shop and the Sanyo Sewing before moving to Plattsburgh, NY
She earned a CDL which she was extremely proud of and drove cross county for Olen Harvey of Chazy, being one of two female drivers, at that time in 1995.
She entered State Service working at Clinton Correctional prison in 1996, retiring in 2015.
She obtained and was a New York State Notary for many years in Clinton County.
For a short time, she volunteered for Stop Domestic Violence of Plattsburgh, and briefly worked as a volunteer at CVPH, delivering flowers. After her retirement, she volunteered with The Literacy Council of Plattsburgh; where she became a tutor to I “learners”, but it was she who learned so much from them.
She truly loved music and enjoyed baking and making her special “potato salad”, and held the secret of the best banana bread her family loved.
She is survived by her husband Gary of Cadyville, NY, daughter and son in law, Terri and Brian Douglas of Plattsburgh, NY, son and daughter in law, George and Patty Coger of Morrionville, sister, Carol effner of Worchester, NY.
She was blessed with eight grandchildren, Anthony and Jennie Coger, Nathan and Dylan Coger, Kayla Miner, Ashley Baird, and Meagan, Zachery Douglas, Joshua and Angela Coger, great grandchildren; Jasmine, Joey, Emily, Rosie, Bryan, Stella and Alan.
She was lucky in life to have many good friends.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Louis, mother, Flossie Paulin, brother in law, Stanley Effner, mother in law, Nellie Coger, and Uncle Bill Coger, mother and father in law, Gene and Tom Abel, grandparents, Tony and Rose Paulin, great grandson, Damon and many aunts and uncles.
Calling hours will be Saturday, December 18, 2021 from 1:00-3:00 pm at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Elmore SPCA in Peru.
