Shirley M. Haskins, of 12 LaBarre Street, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at the UVM Medical Center surrounded by those who loved her.

She was born on March 4,1935, in Chateaugay, New York, the daughter of Goldie and Losia (Martin) Yelle. She attended school in Malone, NY before moving to Plattsburgh. Shirley was predeceased by her beloved husband, Calvin Haskins, her father Goldie Yelle, her mother, Losia Potter, her step-father, Wayne Potter, her brother, Keith Yelle, and son-in-law, Michael Abelson.

Shirley is survived by her children, Lori Abelson and Scott (Beth) Haskins; her cherished grandchildren, McKenzie (Ashley) Haskins, Chantal (Cory) Davenport, and Sarah Abelson; her adored great-grandchildren, Owen Howard, Mattie Davenport, Owen Newgarden, Mason Davenport, Calvin Haskins, and Sadie Abelson; and her beloved sister-in-law, Sue Yelle. Shirley loved living on Labarre Street, and felt it was an extension of her own family.

Upon moving to Plattsburgh with her husband, Calvin- Shirley worked at Loan Service. Once her children were born, she became a devoted and resourceful stay-at-home mom, selling Avon and Sarah Coventry to help support her family. When her children were older, she began working at Amidon Medical Associates, retiring as their beloved office manager after many years.

To know Shirley, is to love Shirley, is to be loved by Shirley. Better known to most as “Meema,” she was an extraordinary woman whose kindness, spunk, thoughtfulness, wisdom, fun-loving spirit, and boundless love touched everyone who knew her. Shirley was well known for her deep love of her family and friends. She was the biggest cheerleader at her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sports games and awards ceremonies, celebrated big at friends and family birthday parties, and said “Yes!” to anything she could do! Her mind, heart, and kitchen door were always open, and she welcomed everyone she met with respect, warmth, and a listening ear. She was never one to sit for long, and loved to be on the go- whether it was shopping at garage sales, tending to her beautiful flowers, making her family’s favorite meals, or scouring the aisles of Aldi.

When beginning motherhood, Shirley enjoyed being a part of the Plattsburgh Mother’s Club- where she met many friends. Her Catholic faith was deeply important to her. Shirley was a member of the Roman Catholic Community of Saint Alexander's in Morrisonville, N.Y. and she was a faithful supporter of the Saint Brother André. She enjoyed being involved in the Ladies of St. Alexander's helping with the harvest dinner, bake sales and especially, the pies! Shirley was also a lifetime member of the District 3 Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday January 9, 2026 at 11:00 am at St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville. The family invites those who treasured Shirley to join them after the mass, in the parish hall for a Celebration of Life. Burial will be at Gerald B. Solomon, Saratoga National Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, or in honor of Saint Brother André to the Oratory of St. Joseph's, in care of the funeral home.                                                                                                                                                                         Arrangements are entrusted to Brown Funeral Home. Shirley will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
