Shirley A. Kilkeary

Shirley A. Kilkeary, 89, of Plattsburgh, passed away August 15, 2026, at the UVM Health Network — CVPH Medical Center with her loving family by her side. She was born April 26, 1937, the daughter of Alphonse and Rena (Lamar) Seymour.

Shirley was active in the Plattsburgh community all her life and spent her last working years as the town tax collector. She was also the long-time legal assistant to Jack Bell, John Niles, and Charlie Lewis. Much of her time was spent volunteering, particularly with St. Peter’s School.

Always busy, Shirley served with the National Ski Patrol and knitted constantly, especially for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. An avid reader and puzzle-lover, she rarely went long without a book or a puzzle in progress. With her beloved husband, dozens of winter months were spent in Sarasota walking the beach and enjoying sunsets, though Lake Champlain always remained home — and barely a day went by without a “trip around the Head.”

God graced her with a large and loving family; she sent a birthday card to each member without fail and held a special place with everyone between Plattsburgh and Pittsburgh. She will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Joseph Kilkeary; their children, Kathy Grecco (Tony), Kevin Kilkeary (Tina), and Keith Kilkeary (companion Heather); grandchildren Katlyn, Anthony, Kevin, Mackenzie, Ryan, and Sean; great-grandchildren Aisla, Bryce, Harper, Liam, Wesley, and Shay; siblings Allan Seymour (Jeannette) and Gerald Seymour (Judy); sister-in-law Mary Seymour; and her beloved dog, Bella.

She was predeceased by her grandson, Mitchell Kilkeary, and her brother, Richard Seymour.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 19, 2026, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, August 20, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Peter’s Church. Burial will follow at Divine Mercy Cemetery on Cumberland Head in Plattsburgh.
