Steven P. Mayhew, 87, Cliff Haven, passed away 19 January in the presence of family.
Born in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, Steve graduated from Dover-Foxcroft Academy and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force for 22 years. First assignment as an electrician was Thule Greenland. Soon after, he married his wife of 66 years Charlotte. They had three sons, Brian, Brent, and Bruce at Dyess AFB in Texas before permanent changes of station to Colorado, Philippines, New Mexico, North Dakota, and Plattsburgh, New York. Interspersed were unaccompanied assignments to South Vietnam (in 1967) and South Korea.
After retiring from the Air Force and spending a year at Peru High School, Steve joined PARC as The Electrician after closing of Plattsburgh AFB till PARC closed operations.
Steve was an avid golfer, country and western musician, and fan of the New England Patriots. He played in two bands using one of several guitars, banjo, or synthesizer: playing each entirely by ear. He loved country music, desserts, and playing games.
Steve was a member of St. Peter's and of the Knights of Columbus.
Steve is survived by his wife Charlotte; son Brian and wife Ellen of East Lansing, Michigan; son Brent of Plattsburgh; and son Bruce and wife Clare of Pine Mountain, Georgia. Under Brian and Ellen, Steve is survived by grandson Eric, wife Emily, and granddaughters Lily and Nadia of East Lansing, Michigan; grandson Scott of Grand Rapids, Michigan; and granddaughter Kelly of Chicago, Illinois. Under Bruce and Clare, Steve is survived by grandson Devin of Owings Mill, Maryland and granddaughter Samantha of Denver, Colorado. Steve is also survived by his youngest sister, Eileen Carr of Dover-Foxcroft; and nieces Lynne Libby and Julie Wiegleb of Thomaston, Maine.
Services are private and at the convenience of the family.
