Thomas H. Murnane, Age 93, of Plattsburgh, passed away on November 4, 2023 at home. Born in Herkimer, New York on January 15th, 1930, he was the son of the late James and Margaret (Hartum) Murnane. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Katherine (Albright) Murnane, and three children; Thomas M. Murnane and his wife Julie (Carroll) of Plattsburgh, Amy A. Murnane of Plattsburgh, and Hope Murnane Foley and her husband John of Fernandina Beach, FL. Thomas is also survived by six grandchildren: Taylor and Maddison Murnane, David and Anne Randall, and Elizabeth and Katherine Foley. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a brother James L. Murnane, Jr. and his wife Janet (Cowden) Murnane. Tom joined the U.S. Airforce in 1948, and subsequently served in the Korean War, honorably discharged in 1952. After his USAF service, he attended St. Michael’s College in Toronto, Canada, and went on to receive a degree in construction engineering from SUNY Delhi in 1956. In 1957, he married Katherine Albright at St. Francis de Sales Church in Herkimer, New York, and subsequently moved to West Chazy, then Plattsburgh, New York where he resided for 65 years. From 1956 – 1962, Tom worked as an estimator for the John J. Harvey Construction Company in Utica and Plattsburgh, NY. In 1962, Tom became a construction superintendent, estimator and project manager for Fletcher-Murnane Construction Company, then Murnane Associates, Inc. in Plattsburgh, NY. Tom was the project manager and estimator for many landmark buildings in the region, including numerous buildings at Wyeth Pharmaceutical in Rouses Point, the Crete Memorial Civic Center, a number of dormitories, building and projects at SUNY Plattsburgh, the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake, additions to CVPH Hospital, and many more. Tom was also instrumental in the construction of many buildings for the 1980 Olympic Games in Lake Placid, NY, including the Whiteface Base Lodge, the new Olympic ice arena, and the Olympic Broadcast Center. Upon retirement in 1994 he worked for a period of time as an estimator/consultant for Fuller Excavation. Tom was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Plattsburgh, Plattsburgh BPOE, and the Barracks Golf Club. He also served in retirement on the Plattsburgh Cultural Center renovation committee. He was also a life-long fan of the New York Yankees and the NY Giants. However, he enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family and was a dotting grandfather to his six grandchildren. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, November 8 at 11:00 am at St. John the Baptist Church, Holy Cross Parish, in Plattsburgh. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the North Country or Holy Cross Parish, Plattsburgh. Arrangements are entrusted to Brown Funeral Home.
