Wayne G Smart

Plattsburgh Wayne G. Smart, 79, of West Church Street, West Chazy, NY passed away on Thursday October 28, 2010, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born on February 26, 1931 the son of Roger and Corinne (Dubec) Smart. Wayne worked as a carpenter at Georgia Pacific in Plattsburgh retiring after 25 years of service. He was a member of the Carpenters Union and the Paper Mill Works Union at Georgia Pacific. Wayne was a member of the Plattsburgh Radio Aero Modelers Club. He enjoyed building model planes, flying them and working on them. Wayne also raced at Airborne Speedway in Plattsburgh from 1968 to 1972. Beginning in the 1950's Wayne played in a band with his father and brothers at town halls around the North Country and even until recently Wayne loved to sing and play music. He was predeceased by his parents. Wayne is survived by his wife of 29 years, Barbara Smart, seven children; Shelia Healy and her husband Robert of AZ, Leonard Smart and his wife Tammie of Plattsburgh, Matt Smart of Plattsburgh, Stanley Smart of IL, Gail Smart of Plattsburgh, Cindy Shreenan of CA and Steven Smart and his wife Carol of CA, four step-children; Sue Butterfield of NC, Barbara Golden and her companion Manny Tirado of Cadyville, Jill Merritt and her husband Rich of Beekmantown and Scott Culley and his companion Patti Jerry of Plattsburgh, four brothers; Roger Smart of FL, Roger Smart of Seneca Falls, NY, Preston Smart and his companion Debbie McKenna of Plattsburgh and Zachary Smart and his wife Gail of Peru, NY several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive him. Calling hours will be held Saturday October 30, 2010 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.
